Comfy and cozy season is here. Oversized sweaters, frothy drinks, pumpkin spice everything — this fall girly is so happy about it. If you can’t tell, I love fall. It offers a kind of comfort the other seasons just don’t seem to have. But even with all its warmth and muted tones, there’s a far superior comfort. That’s the comfort of God.

The God Of All Comfort
I’ve spent many years searching for comfort in everything but God — relationships, career, food. It wasn’t always intentional, but it was familiar. In a world full of guilty pleasures and quick fixes, it’s easy to become dependent on worldly delights. Habitual, even. We build our own personal boxes of comfort, curated and ready for every disappointment. The relief is instant. The relief is also temporary. And yet we hand it our full trust anyway.
In those moments, we don’t choose God — we run from Him. We don’t trust that His grace reaches the most intimate parts of our grief. And if we’re honest, sometimes we don’t want it to. We’d rather give in to the comfort we already know, regardless of the cost, than risk the discomfort of surrender.
But we don’t have to settle for short-lived happiness when we’ve been offered everlasting joy.
God is the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). His comfort doesn’t coddle bad behavior — it crucifies the flesh. It’s full of grace and truth, purifying and strengthening our souls as it goes. If our relief leads us further from Him, it was never comfort at all. God’s comfort isn’t a temporary pleasure. It carries the weight of lasting salvation.
We’re not promised a comfortable life. We’re promised a glorious eternity in Christ. That’s the comfort that actually holds.

‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. ‘
‘He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings that we suffer.
