LIVING WATER that NEVER runs DRY
When the woman at the well meets Jesus, she’s tired, isolated, and drawing water she’ll have to draw again tomorrow. He offers her something different: “whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again… it will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4
That is the heart of The Pour.

I Can’t Do This
I never thought I could find comfort in such un-comforting words. If I’m honest, I don’t like being unable to do something. But as I uttered the words, “I can’t do this,” in my mind, I was immediately reminded that maybe I don’t have to. Not alone anyway.
Many times I have found myself in a spiral and thus thinking the worst thoughts.
“I can’t succeed at my craft.”
“I can’t achieve my dreams.”
“I can’t be a good mom.”
“I can’t be a good wife.”
“I can’t steward my home well.”
“I can’t be a good friend.”
And on, and on, and on.
If you are anything like me, you have had moments when you let your thoughts overtake your day. You feel like you aren’t good at anything and may never be. But that’s the thing about feelings: they’re fleeting.
But on one ordinary day, as I was falling into the rabbit hole of despair and disappointment, I was reminded of 2 Corinthians 12:9.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.’” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
The truth is, I am weak. I do fail. I get it wrong. I don’t know everything. I can’t do it all. But I’m not supposed to. Because I have an advocate in Jesus. We have an advocate in Jesus.
One of my favorite exchanges in the Bible comes from Exodus 4. God gives Moses an assignment of a lifetime. He is to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. But Moses allows his insecurity to doubt what God has called Him to do. How does God respond?
“But Moses replied to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent — either in the past or recently or since you have been speaking to your servant — because my mouth and my tongue are sluggish.”
The Lord said to him, “Who placed a mouth on humans? Who makes a person mute or deaf, seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?”
Exodus 4:10-11 CSB
Moses continues to doubt, and God repeatedly reassures him because the assignment is based not on Moses’ ability but on the Lord’s.
No matter what we are facing or what season of life we are currently in, we can rest knowing that God is our support. We don’t have to know it all or do it all because God equips us. We are not alone in the journey of life. We have a Father who hears us and sees us. We have a Saviour who advocates for us. We have the Holy Spirit who counsels us.
So the next time those words, “I can’t do this,” creep into your mind, take comfort because you don’t have to.
